Second Floppy on an LC II
Posted by: stevent281 on 2026-08-24 13:27:11
I was hoping there would be a way to setup a second floppy drive on an LC II. I just purchased a FloppyEMU and would like to use is for the MAC. I don't need to use Both at the same time (although this would be ideal). So even some sort of Y cable would be OK. I'm also entertaining just running a cable to the outside of the case, but would love something a little more elegant. Thanks!

I used to sell an A/B Switch that was similar to your Y cable idea. I no longer offer that product, but it's an open design and I think some other vendors have started selling it. Check eBay or Tindie? https://www.bigmessowires.com/2015/03/30/new-product-apple-disk-drive-ab-switch/

Schematics at https://www.macdat.net/repair/apple_schematics.php

LC II schematics show ENBL1 (pin 20 of SWIM) connected to the floppy connector pin 14.
ENBL2 (pin 19 of SWIM) is unconnected.

LC schematics show how ENBL2 goes to a second floppy connector pin 14. All the other pins of the second floppy connector appear to be the same as the first floppy connector.

Maybe you can try wiring a second floppy connector on the LC II like on the LC?

Maybe you can have two floppy connectors on the same cable, one with the normal ENBL1 connection to pin 14 and the other connector's pin 14 connected to ENBL2?

I don't know if this mod is possible. I have not researched it.

That is perfect! I'm going to try to make one, thank you!

The footprint for the second floppy cable connector is on the board on the LC II? Don't just just solder it in?

Edit : Ah sorry, the unused footprint isn't as many pins. I was looking at the "Nubus Support Connector" which is itself really interesting.
