| Bundle of Newtons (incl transparent 110), discs, and peripherals |
Posted by: TechEdison on 2026-08-15 10:59:02 So I had made a Facebook post in the Newtons group asking if anybody had a 2100 with a dead motherboard I could buy for cheap as a parts unit for mine. I may still be looking for more newtons considering what transpired below...
An Alta Vista Group employee (?) reached out to me, offering up his as well as a 120 if I was interested. Not seemingly interested in any sort of payment, he shipped me a box... What it contained had me jaw dropped.
Numerous development tools CDs over the course of the Newton production years, a charging dock, and three newtons. All 3 are loaded with seemingly an internal development ROM, opening right up to the extras drawer and not appearing to have the characteristic notes applet installed. One of them is a transparent MP110 (developer? Prototype?).
Figured I'd share here. What, if anything, should be backed up off the discs and devices I received for archival purposes? Everything? Is any of this on Unna yet?

Also pictured are my MP2000 and my recent eMate |

I think it would be a shame for any of these to be pulled apart. They're all working and all have custom software.
So if any of you have a MP2000 or 2100 that won't power on, I may be interested. |

I’ve never come across any of those disks so do archive them, please!
I wonder if it would also be worth trying to dump the ROMs |

I wonder if it would also be worth trying to dump the ROMs Newton ROMs from most devices have already been dumped, including prototype and development versions. The majority of them are available on UNNA.
Likewise, most of the development and debugging software is also on UNNA, although images of some of those developer discs could be uploaded.
Can you make a list of the CD titles? I’m curious if there are any in your pile that I don’t have in my own archive. |

Absolutely. I'll try to get to that in the next couple days.
I decided against dumping the roms but did make NCU / NCK backups |
Posted by: dschnur on 2026-08-28 17:44:53 The clear 110's were offered to Apple developers when they came out. They are pretty rare, but not prototypes. Nice find! They are worth saving! |
