New Thermal Paste on the processors in a PM G5 2.0 DP
Posted by: ArmorAlley on 2026-06-04 11:35:20 I have just taken my PM G5 2.0 DP apart to put in a new power supply after the G5 stopped working. The fans wouldn't even turn on. It was not responsive at all. While I was doing that, I applied new thermal paste to the first of the G5 processors and this seems to have been a mistake. I can get the 4 screws around the processor back in but the 6 long screws on the outside won't go back in. Does anyone have practical experience with this? Is it simply a mis-alignment of the screws? Are the black plastic holders between the CPU-card and the heatsink too old now? Any help would be appreciated.

Power Mac G5 Dust Out and Thermal Paste Re-do As a pre-new-years preparation for smashing out productivity in 2018, I decided to pull the 4 big aluminum towers out of my office and give them all a thorough clean up (plus vacuum the carpet in the dusty space they took up).
