Flashing an ACARD AEC6280
Posted by: ttyr2 on 2026-05-23 19:35:23
So I'm having a go at flashing an ACARD AEC6280 with the AEC6280M firmware and not getting very far. This card has the ACARD-labeled chip on it, not the ACHIP chip. I removed resistor R71 on the board, removed R19 and replaced with a 1K resistor and then attempted to flash the card in my beige G3 with the ACARD utility. It doesn't show the existing firmware version and will happily flash with the packed version that came with the utility, but I don't think it's actually doing anything. The card just shows as a generic PCI device in Apple System Profiler.

The guy at synack.net said he flashed the card with a Win98 machine but gives no instructions on how to do so. Using the wayback machine, I was able to find PC utilities, but when I try to run them it says the Mac firmware .bin is not a BIOS, but will flash the card with the PC BIOS file.

I found a post at tinkerdifferent but the .zip file appears to have all sorts of issues...I don't know if it's just corrupt but the filetypes and creators for the executables are missing. I tried setting those using Snitch, but then they would start but no do anything.

I'm a bit stuck here, and am unsure how to proceed. It seems like people have done this mod before but I haven't come across any details howto's that actually work.

Link to the post?
Try decompressing the zip in modern macOS before transferring to classic MacOS?
