Anyone know if this is a solder down CPU or just an odd CPU in a socket?

Interesting interposer. Just from the photo it's hard to tell if it's PLCC-to-PGA or BGA.

ugh ok I asked the seller to try for a side photo, I didn't know they did soldered down 040

It's a QFP (soldered CPU) on an adapter into a PGA (pins) socket.

You see them occasionally. There is a listing for one somewhere in Europe ATM, not sure if this is the one. A 630 I think it was, same as what you're showing.

So it can be removed and a normal 040 could plug into it?

Yeah, should be. Can't tell you for 100% certainly because someone might always have done something weird, but that's what it looks like.

I'd keep it like that, it's quirky. Plus it's a 33MHz, so will certainly run at 40MHz, especially with a little heatsink.

Perfect I am looking for a 580/630 with the GIMO for a dos card

Its for a DOS card project so I need it to come off and go onto the DOS card

Ah yeah, that is the right board. You can tell by the extra holes as well as the second RAM slot :

Ah fair, but you can still plug this quirky one back into the DOS card πŸ™‚

Worst case you can desolder what's there and fit a socket.

But if you're super worried,I'd keep looking because that one is f-ing expensive.

I have one of these, came with a 630 board as well. It’s just a QFP to PGA adapter and you can remove it from the socket. I swapped a full 040 onto mine and run it in an LC475.

Sounds good! Project is moving along, slowly, lol.

Its a 520 into a Tacky with a 580 to a 630 DOS πŸ™‚
