SIIG SC-SA4011 in a G4?
Posted by: ttyr2 on 2026-05-08 08:35:43
I dug a G4 (M8493) out of my storage unit. Someone gave it to me years ago and I never had a chance to power it up until now. It came with a SIIG SC0SA4011 card in it which had nothing attached. I'd be interested in getting SATA booting working, but I appear to have run into a dead-end with this card. I haven't been able to track down any Mac OSX drivers for it and it shows up as a generic device with no driver loaded in system profiler.

Do you guys know if it's possible to boot from this card? Or is it pretty much a Windows-only device.

TIA

in most cases you need specific mac firmware for these cards to work. which chipset does it use?

I should have said SIIG SC-SA4011. Confirmed it's SiL3114-based. Shows as pci1095,3114 in System Profiler. There's firmware available but the links are broken at SIIG's download site.

I eventually found a post on a macrumors thread that had the Wiebe firmware and a description on how to use flashROM and FreeDOS. The card now shows up on the G4 as supported and I'm cloning the HD to the SSD.
