| System 7.5.5 StuffIt 5.5.2 unstuffing of some games archives is extremely slow. |
Posted by: ruthan on 2016-10-26 16:57:03 Hello,
im using emulated 7.55 System under Amiga OS and Fusion emulator (68040 + 256 MB Ram, Quadra 5), everything running fine, but unstuffing (Stuff it 5.5) of some games is extremely slow
for example Heroes 2 sit archive - 25 MB is more that 15 minutes, others archive are must quicker.
Is this normal? Its slower than extracting from floppy on 286 Pc..

Posted by: Macdrone on 2016-10-26 16:59:56 Emulation under an OS on a slow processor will always be crazy slow. Same reason Virtual PC was. It was able to use windows on a mac without a PC card but really quite unusable for anything.

Posted by: rsolberg on 2016-10-26 17:11:35 Unstuffing multi-megabyte archives can be a pretty long process on 68k Mac hardware as well. It's pretty processor intensive. If I'm not feeling particularly patient, I'll do it on a newer Mac and copy the extracted files over the network or burn them to a HFS formatted CD.

Unstuffing files can be pretty slow on a PPC Mac too. Yeah and then you find out only 80% though the archive is corrupt.

Posted by: IPalindromeI on 2016-11-01 13:00:28 IIRC, Stuffit doesn't use a native PPC decompressor unless you pony up for DropStuff. Nickel and diming!
Stuffit was terrible, If you find a time machine, go back in time and port PKZIP before any of it happens, and you'll be a rich man.
