Potential Compact Mac stand
Posted by: beachycove on 2026-04-14 16:58:20
I have a Compact Mac (or two) in use that I tend to set on an old biscuit tin in order to bring it up to a better height. However, for years I’ve been interested in the MacTable, as illustrated below. The key thing about this arrangement for me is that the machine is angled up rather than simply raised, which gives me the idea of using a raised wedge (probably fashioning one from wood) to angle my machines suitably. See my little scrawl.

Has anyone tried a wedge under a Compact as a stand, and does it improve things?

I use one of those external SCSI cases with a CD ROM drive in it. The case that is meant to sit underneath the Mac SE. It's just enough height to raise it up enough to work on the compacts directly.

I use a modern metal laptop stand oriented backwards to raise and angle my SE/30.

This is the item shown in the picture. It’s no longer available but I’m pretty sure one just like it under a different name could be found online somewhere.

Soon after getting my SE in the day. I fabricated the most simple angled stand possible from 14" clear Plexiglas. It amounts to a "Z" with front riser of a couple of inches, footplate angled down and back with an up angle in the rear to keep it from sliding off. Lost to time, but I can fab another one and do a howto topic if enough folks are interested.
