Posted by: imactheknife on 2026-04-04 17:03:18 Anyone know what scsi chip controls scsi bus on powerbook 100? |
Posted by: Fizzbinn on 2026-04-04 17:32:30 AM85c80 Which is a combined SCSI Serial IC. Apple referred to it the "Combo Chip" in hardware development notes, e.g. PowerBook 100 Hardware Developer Note.
SCC and SCSI interfaces
A custom chip called Combo combines the functions of the SCC and the SCSI controller in a single device. This device is completely software compatible with the SCC (85C30) and SCSI (53C80) chips it replaces. |

Posted by: imactheknife on 2026-04-05 07:47:30 Found the exact same chip on a dead iivx board. Replaced it now i i dont get a flashing question mark. So hard to say if chip was dead already, or hot air killed it?? It did have corrosion on legs too.. argh! |
Posted by: finkmac on 2026-04-05 08:00:57 i think it's more likely that you just had crud shorting pins on the mainboard, and the chip swap cleaned it up. |
