LCD monitor weirdness with millions of colors
Posted by: cylindricpanda on 2026-03-17 10:49:33
I have a 7100/66 that has sat for a while, but I usually use an LCD monitor with. I've used the passive dip switch vga converters before with no major issues, but I just got the mac sync-inator, and it does work with this dell monitor that the previous converters had some issue with. but it introduced this odd effect whenever I use millions of colors but only on that setting. It does this with a viewsonic lcd too. so I'm pretty sure its either a setting on the syncinator or I suppose the video card could need recapping, but I would think that would present this issue with all color modes, not just one. any thoughts?

Wrong link? Goes to an LGR YT video.

If you can reproduce it on two monitors GPU would be at fault

d'oh! this is the right one.

It looks like a hardware fault with the card, most likely the VRAM. Are you using the standard video card (has upgradable RAM you can clean slots or switch around with known good VRAM SIMMS) or AV HPV card (soldered RAM can't remove). Also inspect both cards for damage/loose pins

Pretty sure I swapped the standard one for the AV, but I'll pop it open and have a look tonight.
