DeadlyGames M4 Freezing
Posted by: LaPorta on 2026-03-11 07:58:58
This is a very specific question, but it is pertaining to the DeadlyGames M4 HyperCard-based game.

On both my PB1400 and PT Pro, the game freezes when the radio communications are turned on (those familiar with the game will know what that is). I have tried System 7.6.1, 8.6, and 9.1. The game was originally made for System 6/7, so there may be some incompatibility there, as the systems are later. Also, both machines have G3 upgrade cards. I have tried many things: all extensions off, disabling VM (a manual recommendation for play), shutting off the G3 processor cache....no go. I don't currently have a II/Quadra/Early Power Mac set up to run 7.1 on to test it. Can anyone give this a try if they already have it or can download it?

Is it a document, or a published application?

If it is a document, try an older version of HyperCard Player or HyperCard - they changed a load of stuff in later versions. I've had issues with older stacks in newer versions of HyperCard.

Published application. I thought it might have been HyperCard, but it is not a stack, it is self-contained.

Ah shame, was worth checking.
