Powerbook 3400 power LED
Posted by: smash_hamster on 2026-02-06 02:47:51
Have done some searching, but no joy.

I have a PB 3400C that seems to be mostly working.

Dead main battery.
PRAM battery removed - it was just starting to show a tiny sign of leakage but hadn't reached beyond its own cable thankfully.
Dead HDD but boots from install disk in CDROM.

Otherwise seems fine. Plugged in, chimes, boots if disk is available. But the power LED at the top of the screen assembly never lights up at all.
Is this normal behaviour? Is it supposed to light when the AC adapter is plugged in? When the machine is switched on? What is the expected normal behaviour?

If not normal, are there any common issues that would cause this?

Thanks!

Does it flash when the system is asleep?

That, plus the occasional indication for various types of PRAM reset, is all it should do, despite the symbol implying it’s a “normal” power LED

Ahh, thanks - I'll check. I'm not sure I've had the system go to sleep at any point yet!

Also, the user's manual pp 4, 24f, 95 could possibly be of interest to you.

Ah! Thanks, that makes perfect sense. Looks like normal behaviour then.
It'd help if I actually read the manual rather than scanning it in 10 seconds...
