A new SD-based hard drive, daisy-chainable: the BurgerDisk
Posted by: colinmcmillen on 2026-02-02 00:57:34
Hello folks!

Back in november, I bought an SD-based Smartport hard disk for my IIc, so that I could have a bit more storage for my Quicktake pictures. Sadly, it proved very annoying to have to choose between connecting the SD hard disk, or the floppy drives (I have an Unidisk 3.5 and a Disk //c).

So I set out to build a daisy-chainable device that would allow me to use everything all the time, and I succeeded 🙂 I made an enclosure so it sits nicely with the rest of my devices. This is how it looks:

You can read about it here: https://www.colino.net/wordpress/burgerdisk-an-apple-ii-smartport-hard-drive/
I have made a post documenting how it works: https://www.colino.net/wordpress/archives/2026/01/18/handling-daisy-chaining-storage-on-apple-ii/

It seems that it interests a few people, so I made a small Kickstarter, in order to see how much parts to buy to make these people happy: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/colinleroymira/burgerdisk/

I hope you'll like it!
