| quick gazelle-vs-alchemy graphics question |
Posted by: chelseayr on 2026-01-03 05:17:11 just have to wonder (and create a separate thread for that in case this one becomes less than very short you know) but..
in here
is specifically mentioned "The 6500/Gazelle logic board's improved graphics aren't matched by Alchemy at 50MHz (not that surprising)", does that mean the stock gazelle and 'accelerated' alchemy graphic cores are very similar benchmarks by then or am I misreading that?
I know that stability seem to be an issue with the alchemy's overclocking but even then I simply had to wonder for now nevertheless |
Posted by: obsolete on 2026-01-03 08:14:39 My interpretation of those benchmarks is that the ATI graphics chip on the Gazelle board handily outperforms it's predecessor, Apple's Valkyrie chip on the Alchemy board, regardless of bus speed.
I did not experience any stability issues with my Alchemy board at 50MHz. |
Posted by: Powerbase on 2026-01-03 13:02:55 Did the Valkyrie even do 2d acceleration, wasnt it just a fancy frame buffer? The ole ATI Rages weren't the fanciest but I always found then to be pretty speedy 2d-wise. |
Posted by: obsolete on 2026-01-03 13:59:36 @Powerbase dunno. I did enough searching to get here https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?thr...onto-quadra-630-motherboard.31632/post-523974
but don't have time to ingest that document at the moment. |
Posted by: chelseayr on 2026-01-03 16:42:46 I see the meaning now, thanks for your reply obsolete |
Posted by: Arbee on 2026-01-12 19:11:13 Original Valkyrie does not have any acceleration, correct. |
