A half-remembered Tech Note on all the gotchas with A/UX Toolbox interop
Posted by: rfc6919 on 2025-12-30 17:28:02
I'm sure I've read a DTS Tech Note on all the gotchas Apple encountered using the Toolbox interop in A/UX, that basically came down to "unless you *really* need to use this don't even try, if you do need it here's all the issues you'll need to work around", but I can't for the life of me find it now. Per my memory it was written in the usual conversational/humorous DTS style, perhaps by Quinn.

Have any of the A/UX people here (ping @cheesestraws) seen this?

Nope - wish I had - the pitfalls I found I had to fall into myself

Ah well, thanks.

Chapter 4 has some of this information, at least: https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Apple_A/UX_2.0_Toolbox:_Macintosh_ROM_Interface_030-0787-A

A bit more digging suggests https://wiki.preterhuman.net/PT_9_-_A/UX_System_Calls_From_Macintosh_Software as another possibility.

OMG that's the one. I knew it was post-AUX3 (I suspect AppleShare Pro was the first real non-trivial hybrid app) but have been trying to find it in any collections of DTS publications. Not sure I ever dealt with Apple Business Systems, now I don't even know where I would have seen this back in the day.
Thanks!
