Mac SE with Radius Accelerator and Page Two Display wont boot.
Posted by: BobDaAggie on 2025-12-29 21:06:45
So I have spent Christmas break working on getting my Mac SE up and running. When I got it, the CRT would not come on. I replaced the CRT and the neck board and the Mac SE booted. I have a Radius Accelerator installed and the Mac SE booted up using my external BlueSCSI and running 7.1. I also got a Page Two Display card that I then installed in the Mac SE. Now when I boot, I get the Welcome to Macintosh with the Radius Accelerator logo but it will not go any further. I have not installed any software other than the default BlueSCSI image. I found that there is software for the card but I cannot boot the Mac to install the software. Any ideas?

Firmware v2.1 should work fine with that accelerator and system 7.1, from memory… but it may be worth trying system 6.0.8 and see if it boots with that?

Don't remember, but you may need to pull the Accelerator and install the drivers for it first? It has been a VERY long time.

edit: ISTR needing a ROM upgrade for my Radius16 to move into System 7?

Either/or get it going off the accelerator first then introduce the FPD card later

So the accelerator by itself worked. I will try installing OS 6 on the BlueSCSI and reinstall the display adapter

Finally got around to getting os 6 on my BlueSCSI and success!
The accelerator works, now I need to figure out if the Page 2 adapter is working

How are you going to do that?

One of two ways, I have an oscilloscope that I can see if there are video signals coming out of the BNC or I can borrow an RGB-DVI 300A from a friend. Hopefully I can see the signal.

I’ll be interested to see the results, I have two of these cards (a full page and a 2 page) but I’ve never been able to test them!

Might find a bit of help here, you'll need to break the BNC connection wire out to R, G and B input lines on the display to get a white background.

The banding on the displays is eliminated nicely by running the signal through an Extron Scaler.
