PBG3 Wallstreet - How stiff is too stiff for the hinges?
I have this PowerBook G3 Wallstreet - what cringes me with it is when I open the lid - its very very stiff compared to my PowerBook G3 PDQ - it feels like I will break it but I have been opening it very slowly....

How stiff is too stiff that could break something?

What was the resolution to have those hinges sorted/fixed?

Cheers

The LCD cable wraps around one of the hinges so breaking a hing is not good. Does it need lube or is it broken?

PDQ and Wallstreet are the same.

I've gone through a few 2008 MBPs with this hinge issue; I ended up breaking all sorts of things on one when it finally seized up all the way and I tried to force it anyway. On those hinge mechanisms, figuring out what to lubricate isn't all that obvious; best thing I've found is to be gentle when opening/closing, and try not to heat it up (seems like excess heat is was causes the hinge to tighten). LCD cable doesn't seem to be an issue, at least in the ones I've seen, although once the hinge has fully seized, it can in turn damage the cable.

Ah...*sigh*.... tonight I just broke one or two of the hinges (screen now wont hold up - either falls back or front... I'll crack it open tomorrow or next week and see whats going on and how to be resolved!

Another issue those hinges had was the splines on a hardened pin sticking out of the clutches stripping out their mating splines cast into the upper hinge piece.
