Apple /// Working!
Posted by: Ajaxermd on 2025-08-15 12:34:16
OK, posted a copy of days ago and here is an update.

Apple /// has now been retrobrighted, had the rifa caps swapped out on the PSU, all three drives had their heads cleaned and lightly lubed with white lithium grease.
Did my first test boot and pleased to report it is working!
It also came with a lot of software, including the SOS Disk with Apple II emulation software, AppleWriter ///, QuickFile and some great manuals for Apple Business Basic.

What remains.
1. Drives: The internal drive is powered, but not reading disks. I plugged one of the external drives into the motherboard to load the software. I'll try one more cleaning on the internal drive and then consider swapping in the board and mechanism from one of the external drives.
2. Apple II Emulation: I tried the following games and all seemed to work. Limited to 48k games with no joystick support. I was disappointed by the lack of joystick support.
  • Karateka - Keyboard
  • Lode Runner - Keyboard
  • Championship Lode Runner - keyboard
  • Bolo - need cracked version
  • Castle Wolfenstein - Keyboard
  • Beyond Castle Wolfenstein - Keyboard
  • Aztec - keyboard
  • Serpentine - Keyboard
  • Swashbuckler
  • Miner 2049er - Keyboard
  • Crisis Mountain - cracked version
3. Color on video output - I ordered this RGB to composite video output so I can see the video in color. https://www.ebay.com/itm/194437204701

Otherwise looking and working great!

Yeah, very nice machine! I’m jealous. Been looking for one at a decent price, but the search goes on...

Really nice restoration and good it didn't need too much overhaul to get up and running.
