Loaded clear SE/30 project completion
Posted by: Chuckdubuque on 2025-08-03 09:22:33
Excited to share the completion of a long time project. I call him "BIGMAC" since he has all the things:
1. MacEffects clear case
2. CayMac blinking ram (32MB)
3. CayMac blinking ROM
4. BlueSCSI with EricsEdge's 3D front mounter replacing the hard drive and floppy bay with a front loading SD card
5. @Bolle Ethernet and Riser Card
6. @Bolle Carrera40 accelerator card
7. @zigzagjoe SE Video GS gray scale card
8. Recapped motherboard and analog board
9. Solid state power supply replacement by Baby Face Electronics
10. BMOW Wombat with USB wireless clear key RGB keyboard
11. Modern ADB mouse
I am still looking for an Apple or Command key for the keyboard, and a decent clear USB wired or wireless mouse to use to go with the whole clear motif. And I have a clear resin brightness knob and back panel on order to replace the clear 3d printed parts, but I think it's mostly done.
I plan to put this one on my shelf behind my work desk running slide shows from the future (2025).

And as a bonus, I built a second one I call BIGRED.
1. MacEffects clear red case
2. Same BlueSCSI set up as above but in Green
3. @zigzagjoe 's slotted Booster 50 card for 68030 50Mhz goodness
4. 64MB RAM
5. A transplanted 9" Monitor IIc monochrome green screen (thanks to Adrian's Digital Basement and others for making me unafraid to tackle that!)
6. A red power cord
7. Green trim for the front loading BlueSCSI and the expansion port door in the back.
8. Stratos rebuilt power supply
9. Recapped analog board and logic board.

I will replace BIGMAC with this one at Halloween and around the Christmas holidays. Will also install green brightness knob.

Everything salvageable from the machines above has been stored for restoration to original state.

Nice! Now you just need to try greenscale on the Apple II CRT machine πŸ™‚

Reminds me of the clear pager cases in the 80s. Neat!

πŸ‘ RGB isn't to my taste but you did what you wanted with the machine and you're happy with it and that's what counts!

Those are some epic builds! What is this blinking RAM? The Google isn't doing much for me on that one.

I got them from CayMac Vintage, but his store appears to be down right now. Probably taking some vacation πŸ™‚ https://ko-fi.com/caymacvintage

@zigzagjoe LMK if you do not have any pictures of "greenscale" and I will attempt it πŸ™‚ I have to open my red mac anyway to add a PRAM battery extender.

Don't feel you need to, but I think you might be the first.
I know Tim at Juicy Crumb did "Amberscale": https://juicycrumb.com/product/30video-greyscale-kit-for-apple-macintosh-se-30/?v=0b3b97fa6688

Cool. I wish the amber 9" crt were not so unobtanium now. 😒

That keyboard has a β€œwin(dows)” button. Sacrilege!

I know!!! It's so nice otherwise. I had assumed it would come at least with a COMMAND button I could replace it with, but it did not :-( My search continues...

looks like standard keycaps. just find a decent replacement set with a proper cmd key and swap 'em

I see you've toned down the signature in scale because it no longer takes up half the page 😏

I share this passion for maxing out the SE30z - any reason why you opted out of the Synchro030 w 256MB of RAM? I'll note that it does work w a Torus 040 accelerator bc it's PDS not cache. Maybe that will give you something long term to continue your quest?
