| I lost a PB 180 Motherboard yesterday |
Posted by: Shaddam IV on 2025-07-02 00:41:49 Hello, yesterday my PowerBook 180's motherboard died. Luckily I had a replacement 160/165/180 motherboard and the machine itself is running again. But the motherboard is dead. This is what happens: I plug the power in and turn the machine on; it emits the beginning of the startup chimes and then immediately turns off. If this were an amplifier or similar I'd think of a bad capacitor, but where should I start looking on that board? Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks! Have a great day, Karl |

Have a great day, Karl Right where the power supply plugs into the logic board there is one thing that blows up in the back side. Will have to take a picture and show you. But take a look and see. It is a little black rectangle. There are a few other things that it can possibly be too. Will do some research |

Posted by: imactheknife on 2025-07-07 16:08:45 Found it. Check to see if yours if blown up or burnt looking. |

Found it. Check to see if yours if blown up or burnt looking. Yes, if so it can safely be removed temporarily for testing. If it is shorted out it will prevent boot. |
Posted by: Shaddam IV on 2025-07-16 01:10:07 Hi, thank you. The diode you mentioned looks good to me. I cleaned the board thoroughly with compressed air and IPA - so far it boots up nicely. Maybe it was dirt somewhere? Odd. |
