| Apple Portrait Display (international B model) |

I recently fetched an Apple portrait display in good esthetic shape. The seller advertised is a "not sure it works but the green led lights up". The price being very reasonable, I took the plunge.
First hurdle was the infamous 13W3 cable which wasn't with the display. I bought it from Apple Rescue of Denver. Plugged it in my Mac II CX's Video card which was supposed to be able to drive the display and... nothing.
Next step was a full recap. I have to say that disassembling this devil was a nightmare. The inside of my Portrait Display didn't look as what you can see on Youtube. Entirely different. Caps were also different from the list in some forums but hey, let's go for it.
So yesterday, I reassembled (boy, was it difficult) the monitor and switched it on, praying that I didn't f... up. I didn't. Led light went on but after starting the computer, well... almost nothing. Just faint static...
I guess I'll have to dig further...
In the meantime, here is the caps list for the International version of the Apple Portrait Display (made in Italy, by the way). Hope it can help someone.

So, after intensive Inernet research on crt troubleshooting, I re-disassembled the whole thing and checked the CRT neck board socket for bad solder joints and... bingo. One very bad joint, broken all around (coud see the connector moving when tweaking the other side) and one half cracked. I re-soldered all the socket connectors, checked for other stuff, replaced a resistor with a crack, checked resistor values, re-assembled and switched the monitor on. Hallelulaj, there is some picture at last! Not the desktop I was expecting with my IIcx booted, but I could adjust vertical and horizontal centering. But there was a smell... and a smoke. I switched the monitor off presto and noticed it was on the small board locate on one side of the monitor. I removed the board and welll, resistor R519 was burnt.
I have no idea why thiis happened. Maybe the resistooir was already half cooked and the recapping just terminated it? Who knows. I've ordered new resistors (more powerful) to do further tests.

I have also found the disassembly instructions for the International model (a real challenge). Disassembling the neck board cage and desoldering its components is a nightmare. I'll post a link soon. In the meantime, I found another Portrait display in perfect working order. Keeping the other for parts (you never know). |

Oh yes please post it when you can. Not that I’ll have a chance to do any repairs to the monitors any time soon, but it’ll be nice to have! Well

So here is a link to my infinitemac.org appletalk zone where you'll find the Apple Portrait Display files in the "Saved HD" folder.
I recommend you copy them in your own instance of the online emulator.

The folder is empty for me: the contents of Saved HD only live in your own browser. (Try your link in another browser or in Incognito Mode to see.) Is there another way to share this info? |

OK, so here's the files for the international Apple Portrait Display.
You can import it in your virtual machine by dragging it in the"Outside world"f older. It will be stored in the "Downloads" folder of the latter.
