| Duo 250 - Original caps (or not)? |
Posted by: Juror22 on 2025-05-30 22:16:40 I was finally ready to recap my Duo 250 and when I opened it, the caps already appear to have been replaced!!
(either that or they did a really mediocre job of installing the original ones) I have plenty else to do if these are replacements. (recapping the screen is next).

Is there anyone with a picture of an original 'before' board's caps or that can just take a look and pass me an authoritative decision? |
Posted by: mdeverhart on 2025-05-31 08:05:31 It’s been recapped - the original solder would have been much cleaner than that. They also replaced the cap at C36 (top of your picture) with a tantalum instead of the original electrolytic can. |
Posted by: Juror22 on 2025-05-31 08:10:28 Thanks mdeverhart! I suspected as much, but thank you for taking a look. I also checked out the MacDat site and there are apparently no caps that need to be handled on the LCD, so I am going to button this one back up (I replaced the Li battery some time back) and move on to my other Duo. |

I am going to button this one back up (I replaced the Li battery some time back) and move on to my other Duo. If it was me, I’d be looking to tidy up that cap job, even if it was just using a bit of flux to improve the joints. The way they’re done, they could go dry. |

If it was me, I’d be looking to tidy up that cap job That's an excellent idea - I totally overlooked the opportunity to re-recap! I was overly concerned with whether or not there would be leaking and totally missed that, thanks! 🙂 |
