I found a power mac g4 with 3 40gb hard drives model number m5183 and was wondering what it did in its past life with three 40gb hard drives. Havn't gotten it to boot up so i dont know whats on them ( I Thinks its a bad Video card)

3 guesses:

1)video editing work station

2)server duty of some sort

3)original hard drive died, and who ever owned it happen to have some old 40gb drives, saw enough ports and mounting brackets in the G4 to hold them and thought "why not?"

I had a MDD G4 a couple years ago and guess number 3 is how it ended up with extra drives.

Basically an upgrade. I received my very first Mac with dual 120GB HD's.

Previously, it was really common to cycle in and out various internal disks. I used to have the original 6-gig boot disk, a 20-gig, and a 120-gig disk in my blue-and-white Power Macintosh G3. I used to have a similarly motley group of disks in any PC I had.

It could have been basically anything.
