| It's time to upgrade my video card to Quadro4 900 XGL. |
Posted by: mcmcjohn on 2025-05-13 08:12:02 My Power Mac G4 is currently equipped with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro.
However, I wasn't satisfied with it and started looking into the GeForce4 Ti 4600, but it turned out to be really hard to find.
Then I discovered that the Quadro4 900 XGL is actually identical to the GeForce4 Ti 4600.
What’s more, it can be flashed using GF Ti ROM Maker to work on a Power Mac without any hardware modification.
And the Quadro4 900 XGL is relatively affordable on eBay.
I’ll try the upgrade and share my experience soon!! |

Posted by: treellama on 2025-05-13 09:29:58 Do you have a link to GF Ti ROM Maker? I recently repaired a Ti 4200 I'd love to try if it's possible to adjust the clocks. |
Posted by: obsolete on 2025-05-13 11:26:31 If you manage to snag one of these cards, that's awesome, but there are two things you should do immediately:
- Replace all the electrolytic capacitors, they are all suspect at this point, some may already be bulging/leaking
- Replace the fan, or possibly install an aftermarket cooler; overheating will quickly kill the GPU

Posted by: mcmcjohn on 2025-05-16 09:08:07 Hey, guys... I've forgot something... I don't have any old pc for flashing agp graphics cards...
Is there any way to flash agp graphics card without an old pc or to flash it on Power Mac...?
Do I have to flash it on an old pc...? |
Posted by: obsolete on 2025-05-16 09:14:52 The other way would be to desolder the EEPROM chip, read and write in a standalone chip programmer, and resolder. |

So this is the only way, huh... I've got it. T.T |
Posted by: joevt on 2025-05-16 16:19:20 Graphiccelerator has NVFlashUtility (which includes NVFlashUtility) for PowerPC Macs running Mac OS X.

Your card might be too new for it. |

Do I have to flash it on an old pc...? I wonder if you could find some old Pentium 4 junker on you guys' version of Craigslist... I look at local computer classified ads sometimes and you'd be surprised by how much stuff is on there for dirt cheap just bc they want to get rid of it |

It was a freaking PCI express Prescott! |

I've already checked that list, but I think quadro4 900 xgl can't be flashed with this app, maybe... |

Currently, I live in South Korea, and it's quite difficult to find old computers at the computer stores you mentioned. As a Korean myself, I can say that most Koreans tend to prefer the latest equipment, so older models have usually already been discarded a long time ago. Because of this, I'm thinking of reaching out to members of retro pc communities to ask if anyone still runs an old computer. |
