| Using a VTech 32-1690-001 mouse with a 128k/512k/Plus |
Posted by: demik on 2025-05-11 04:00:32 Hello,
Had theses around, figured I could make a guide on how to convert them to use with old Macs.

VTech is a company that did Apple II clones, and later education computers. This mouse was designed to be used with such computers, but the circuity is compatible with early Macs. It's a fully passive Quadrature Mouse.

The wiring needs to be done as shown in the table below
| Macintosh Pin | VTech Pin | Signal |
|---|
| 1 | White (click ground) | Ground | | 2 | Do not connect | +5V | | 3 | Brown (X+Y ground) | Ground | | 4 | Red | X2 | | 5 | Blue | X1 | | 6 | Unused | Unused | | 7 | Orange + Green | Click | | 8 | Black | Y2 | | 9 | Yellow | Y1 |
Boom done

I'm re-reading it, well done me 😉 ! |

Always nice to have options, good job!
Is it just me, or does that Vtech mouse have an almost comically short cord? Yeah it's kinda short but sufficient enough if the mouse is near the Mac. Can always use a straight serial cable as an extender |
