Apps that support video capture from the "Wings" AV Personality Card (820-0971-A) for PowerMac G3 Beige?

Hi all,

There was an absurdly-priced eBay listing for this card ($170). After waiting two months, I finally talked the seller down to $55, which is a lot closer to what examples have sold for in the last 12 months (between $40-80).

What are some OS 8-9 apps that support video
capture from this AV personality card? I plan to get an HDMI to analog video converter from Amazon that includes both Composite and S-Video out. There are now two additional audio inputs shown in the Monitors & Sound panel.

I upgraded the G3 to a 300 MHz CPU and 768 MB RAM, and I installed a 7200 RPM 40 GB Seagate IDE hard drive that is very fast and whisper quiet inside the case. I think it will be fast enough for occasional video capture needs.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I haven't tried any of these with a Beige G3.

HackTV Carbon and BTV were mentioned at https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/wings-card-performance-enhancement.46371/

I don't remember this one.

Did iMovie work with build-in video input devices (not FireWire or USB)?

Does the personality card require a video source to be plugged in before the source is exposed in software? Or am I just missing an extension?

I also have a Connectix (Logitech) QuickCam VC Color USB installed. The video capture apps can see the webcam just fine.

Possibly. I don't know. I've never tried video capture on a Beige G3.

I know my 8600 video output has register bits that determine if an output is connected (one for the composite video output and another for the S-Video output). I haven't checked the video inputs.

Did you try all the suggested apps or just some of them?

Video digitizing is handled by QuickTime components.

Apple Video Player is a decent, if basic, one.

Also, I’ve got another one on my 6300 I’ve used in the past that has got a few more features, I think it is Play it Cool? I’ll verify it when I get back home this weekend.

Yeah, these cards are crazily over-valued at the moment. They’re not exactly rare, or from exotic hardware. I’d pay £50-60 for one… but not more.

I'd just like to mention that I used both BTV Edit and later BTV Pro with this card. Worked great for me. Not sure how you'd register them these days, but I think I've got a license key around somewhere if someone needs it (I sure don't anymore).
