Oracle Server for System 6 or 7?
Setting up Oracle 7 on A/UX, I noticed in one of the included docs ("APPLE: Using SQL*Net AppleTalk", Oracle document 104010.186) that apparently there was an Oracle 6 server for classic MacOS:

This bulletin describes how to set up and use SQL*Net AppleTalk on
A/UX and Macintosh operating systems. If your server is Oracle7, then
the operating system it is running on is A/UX. Oracle 6 AppleTalk
Servers run on the Macintosh operating system.

and

Starting and Stopping Server on Macintosh:
------------------------------------------
On the Macintosh operating system, double click the application
"Oracle Server for Macintosh." If the database is not set to start
automatically, select STARTUP from the DATABASE Menu. To shut down
the database, select SHUTDOWN from the DATABASE Menu or QUIT from the
FILE menu. If you want to change the default Server Name (SRVNAME),
select "OPTIONS..." from the FILE Menu. Then click on the button
marked "Network..." at the bottom of the screen. AppleTalk should be
marked ON, and type in a different Server Name. This will take effect
the next time you start the server (load Oracle Server for Macintosh
into memory).

Has anyone here ever seen this? Was it an actual thing that was ever released?

I'll take another look at that but I'm pretty sure it's just client-side support.

edit: yeah just Mac client support, no DB server in there.

Oracle Server v7 is now uploaded to Macintosh Garden. I don't have the one for System 6, unfortunately.

I was going to suggest bdb, but it appears early A/UX doesn't use Berkeley? I'm pretty sure it did by the end, and you could just use direct SQL queries to interact with it. The whole database revolution really started about the time A/UX was on the way out.

I think you might be misremembering: bdb is a key-value store, not relational - you can now get an SQL plugin thing for it, but it wasn't standard at the time.

You're right; I'm conflating two eras of bdb; late A/UX and early OpenBSD. But I'm still drawing a blank as to what db system A/UX used in pre-3.x....

traditional AT&T dbm (in 3.x as well, bdb was 3rd-party port)
huh, no, perhaps I'm lying. A/UX /usr/include/dbm.h carries copyrights from Apple, Sun, and UCB across versions 1/2/3, but no mention of AT&T. I guess it was bdb from the start?

I got Oracle v7 running on MacOS 8.1 68k. I am looking for content management software/document archival PSQL progs, that I can run either under MacOS or WinXP /w the Oracle DB as the backend store.
