| Identify Powerbook G4 Chip |
Posted by: babelfisher on 2025-04-12 00:03:59 Wondering if anyone can identify this chip on my Powerbook G4 Titanium. I have a feeling it's failed as it's getting super hot as soon as I plug-in the power chord and the machine won't boot. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2025-04-12 00:12:00 Is it an LTC1625? https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/1625f.pdf
That's certainly the Linear Technologies logo on the chip, and the number, pin count and approximate application (assuming this is near the power cord) line up |
Posted by: babelfisher on 2025-04-12 00:17:19 Wow thanks for that, I think you've nailed it. It's definitely on the power rail as the caps next to it have 24v across them and then it drops to 5v on the other side. |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2025-04-12 00:30:24 If it's dropping 24V to 5V it wouldn't be entirely surprising if it got rather warm in normal use. "Super hot" would seem a stretch but I was hoping there'd be more about temperature in that datasheet. Oh well - it may well be in there and I just don't know how to read datasheets for power supply components :-|. |
