PowerMac PCI System 7.5 Video Card Options
Posted by: jdboyd on 2025-01-15 01:44:11
I want to do a System 7.5 setup on a PM 7600. What is the best video card that can support this old OS. Is there something that will get my 1920x1080 (not very period correct I know)? I suspect that a Rage 128 is what I need, but I'm having trouble googling confirmation. Should I just relent and do 7.6 so I can use a Radeon 7000 PCI?

The Radeon 7000 should also work under System 7.5.2 (?)

You should take a look at here: https://www.system7today.com/videocards

Some Ixmicro cards could reach higher resolutions too.

curious, why are you going for 7.5(.3-5?) over 7.6.1? and this may be out of your scope but mac os 8.5 and 8.6 are almost completely PowerPC native and run much better on these machines.

why not? 7.6 is an ugly number. i much prefer the number 7.5.1

7.6 is advisable for powerpcs. More stable.

@croissantking yeah could be inclined to agree with that.
and also as far as I recall yet, the 7.5-vs-7.6 debate seem to only be more reliable on pre-pci hardwares because it seem like certain nubus era things breaks under 7.6's different codebase pieces afaik
