The Restoration of a Macintosh SE 1/40 (not SE/30)
Posted by: jajan547 on 2024-12-16 14:01:17
Hello everyone, A while back my good friend @Jockelill picked up this SE 1/40 for me and sent it over to the United States from Sweden. If some of you were unaware the SE 1/40 as far as I can tell is a model designated only of the European market. It is essentially a Macintosh SE FDHD with a 40MB SCSI drive (hence the 40 part of the name). When it arrived, unfortunately the battery had done some harm and badly corroded the chassis and logic board. I did my best to clean up the machine and the logic board. As it turns out somehow only two trace breaks and two destroyed LS chips were the main areas of concern, well that and a battery holder. I'm excited to share that the restoration is complete and I couldn't be happier. That being said just because something looks a bit rough around the edges doesn't mean it won't clean up nice.

After painting, check there is still continuity at the ground/earth point (the one from the power supply to the chassis).
