In search of a mouse cursor - arrow with watch
Posted by: Tashtari on 2024-12-01 14:03:31
Does anyone remember having seen a piece of Mac software that had a semi-Windows style "working in background" cursor?

That is, an arrow but with a small watch (or perhaps beachball) off to the right side of it. I could swear I've seen this somewhere but I can't remember where. I'm trying to find an authentic example for a cursor theme generator I'm writing...

I can’t check the download but I think this was the most prominent cursor replacement utility and do recall that very cursor which looked factory spec.

HyperCard maybe?

Thanks for the tip - unfortunately I looked through the downloads and couldn't find the cursor I was thinking of... nearest thing was an arrow with the stem cut off and replaced with a clock. This was a thing from an actual application somewhere.

HyperCard maybe?
Nah, HyperCard mostly used a full-size beachball with no arrow. What I was thinking of had a full-sized arrow with a tiny little watch (or possibly a tiny little beachball, I can't remember) next to it.

I've done some searching myself and can confirm that it is not Photoshop 4 or 6 (despite having almost 100 cursors) or ClarisWorks 4.

Windows style
Maybe Word or Excel?

Maybe Word or Excel?
Good thought. It's not in Word 6.0, though, I need to find and try some other versions...

I have vague memories of something like this from I think the QuarkXPress 3 or 4 installer

Edit: I have checked and it's not the XPress 4 installer for sure. Nor is it in the application. Possibly 3 but I'm guessing I was mistaken.

Ahah! Beautiful! Thanks for finding that.

It would still be nice to find the arrow-with-watch cursor since this is for a non-animated busy cursor, but this is a period-authentic example and that's more important to me.

@joshc Cracks & Number 0.2.0 (aka 0.2.0A, aka C&N Editor, aka Serial Numbers & Cracks Viewer Application). I don't know if it's used by anything else.
