I have more RAM than I need. I have an 040 accelerator on the way, a couple of zuluscsi adapters - 1 internal, 1 external slim for networking and CD images. I am thinking a video card is next, but I know the nubus bus is slower than the internal video card. I have my eyes on a SuperMac Thunder/24 v3.0, but am not sure how much of an upgrade that is. I have to think that QuickDraw acceleration has to be good, but games like Doom don't really care. How good of a card do I need to be better than built in video? | Posted by: sircabulon on 2024-11-24 17:37:59 I also have a rominator and floppyemu as well. | Posted by: Byrd on 2024-11-24 19:25:31 Confirming that any nubus video card, unfortunately will not accelerate games - also consider Doom was never good on 68K CPUs, high clocked 040s struggle and upgraded 030 machines really struggle. Marathon runs pretty well.
A Radius PrecisionColor 24X is a decent card to look out for and will work with any VGA monitor you point at it. | Posted by: croissantking on 2024-11-24 19:52:26
How good of a card do I need to be better than built in video? Even accelerated video cards can’t get around the Nubus bottleneck. They’ll do certain things quicker, like drawing a window and filling it with a solid colour (or other ‘vector’ tasks such as these) - but not actually pushing raw bitmap image data. | | 1 |
