| iBook monitor replacement |

I have a clamshell that seems to be in great operating shape except the display is majorly borked. Is it a nasty project to replace the LCD, or should I just look for a new iBook and move on from this? I'm just getting started in the world of Mac tinkering, and I have yet to solder, though I am shopping for irons. |

No, it's not a terrible job as you are just taking apart the clamshell top lid casing/bezel and replacing the LCD with new. No need to tear down the rest of the system unless it's to put in a different LCD cable (see below). It is a simple job just be careful when popping out the bezel you don't put too much flex on where the Apple logo is as the plastic can crack around here (most iBooks have this flaw already though).
Clamshells use different branded LCDs and in turn cabling. You'd be best to dismantle the LCD now find the model and replace with exact same model. |
