| Macintosh Portable - Boot Disk with CD Support |
Posted by: Zhinü on 2024-11-06 15:02:46 Does anyone here have a boot disk for the Portable that has CD support? Looking to use my Apple Legacy CD, but the Portable doesn't boot from CD. |
Posted by: finkmac on 2024-11-06 16:23:22 i don't think the macintosh portable is capable of booting from a CD.
i certainly couldn't get my SE/30 to boot from a virtual CD on a zulu device. i had to convert it into a cursed hfs image |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2024-11-06 16:23:54 What CD drive are you trying to connect to it, first off? Does the Portable have its original HD or do you have some sort of BlueSCSI or equivalent? What are you trying to install off a CD for the Portable, base system software? If using a BlueSCSI, can't you just copy what you need from the Legacy CD onto that and use it on the Portable?
Basically...what is it you are trying to do, exactly? |

should be able to put something together in basilisk i'd imagine? |

I’m using an AppleCD 150, original HD, trying to use the Mac Legacy Disk (the one with 7.5.5 or 7.5.3 on it) to boot from, though I could also boot from a floppy cause I just need to install system software. |

should be able to put something together in basilisk i'd imagine? Yeah true, I could toss together an image, but was just wondering if there’s a community made one already that people boot from. Or if Apple already has a disk tools floppy that has CD drivers. |
Posted by: A24A on 2024-11-11 11:09:57 As has been indicated above, you cannot boot a Macintosh Portable from a CD. You would need, for example, a bootable floppy with CD-ROM software. This could be a copy of an appropriate disk tools floppy, or a Network Access Disk 7.5, with an added CD-ROM extension (compatible with the AppleCD 150). A CD-ROM extension would typically be relatively small (helper files are often not needed for this purpose). If necessary, make room on the floppy by removing Disk First Aid, HD SC Setup. etc.
