Cabletron NuBus Ethernet Card Drivers - E6110-X
Posted by: KGLlewellyn on 2024-10-16 19:02:55
Hey folks,

I've come into possession of three CableTron E6110-X NuBus ethernet cards. However, it seems that the drivers for these are unobtanium, I don't suppose anyone has the driver installer for these?

Pics of this cards are up on the Higher Intellect Wiki https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Cabletron_E6110-X#

Cheers

Dumb question, but have you tried just using it?

With an ST-NIC on board (probably a DP8930) it might be compatible with the built-in drivers. A surprising number of cards used the same hardware configuration (probably the reference design) so they are driver compatible.

Alternatively the Mac Driver Museum seems to have a generic Cabletron package.

I have, it seems that 'Ethertalk/Ethernet' shows up in MacTCP and Network control panel, but when patched into a switch with auto-negotiation turned off and set to 10Mbps, the link never comes up and AppleTalk fails to enable for the card. Granted the card may be damaged, the other two are damaged and need some simple repairs - but given I saw the picture with a driver floppy, I wondered if the built-in drivers wouldn't cut it.

I'll give the Cabletron package a look, thanks!

Ah slight snag, the Mac Driver Museum just has a link to ftp.ctron.com which is obviously down and Wayback didn't crawl FTP sites. :/

Okay not sure if I was looking at an old copy of the Mac Driver Museum, but this one has the driver:
https://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/nic/cabletron.sit

I think this is more geared towards Cabletron Cards for SE/30 but I -think- it has stuff for the E6xx cards, I'll test this out and report back.

Okay I can confirm that these drivers do work for my card and it's working great now!~ 🙂

Glad to hear it!

You might try leaving auto-negotiation on (since it's easier to manage). Only some cards (mostly Asante?) are affected by the issues there so it's good to know if you don't have to bother.

If you do leave it on manual configuration, I believe these are only half-duplex.

Edit: Ignore. Getting my threads mixed up. 🙂
