| New "Leopard Ports" Discord server now live! |
Posted by: thedoctor45 on 2024-10-14 05:18:26 For the past couple weeks I've been working on setting up a Discord server dedicated to sharing information and tools about porting older software to Intel & PPC Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard and later.
This server could be considered an offshoot of the now defunct portingteam website, as its main goal is also to provide technical assistance and knowledge about the software porting process as well as to build a community of likeminded people interested in expanding the currently available software library for legacy Macintosh operating systems.
The server currently features a vast library of game wrapper apps and porting tools (native and non-native) as well as detailed step-by-step tutorials for anyone who's interested in participating.
It is possible to contribute your own ports to the server, however, new users won’t be able to create threads in the release section of the server atm - only people with a Porter rank can submit new content there.
For anyone who owns an old Macintosh computer from the mid/late 2000’s and would like to revive it with some new games and apps, I highly recommend to check it out.
Suggestions and new ideas are always welcome ofc!

Posted by: IPalindromeI on 2024-10-14 14:15:10 Do you have your software/articles somewhere other than Discord? Putting them in Discord makes it harder to find them if you're not already in the group. |
Posted by: AndiS on 2024-10-14 14:49:32 I also don't understand the use of Discord. There is a Forum already and Chats are completely useless regarding documentation. Don't take this personally, it is a more general rant and you can of course do and use with what you are comfortable with.
In my case I tend to stay clear of any project using Discord, Facebook Groups etc... They're just not for me and that's fine. I do now that I am not alone with this though. |
Posted by: IPalindromeI on 2024-10-14 17:07:46 No, I understand using Discord for discussion, it's really convenient for doing so. But if you have any results, it's worth sharing somewhere public. |
Posted by: thedoctor45 on 2024-10-15 01:03:21 Well, most of the ports are also available for download on the macgarden - I just wanted a dedicated place for them so people can discuss and contribute if they like. Considering the fact that forums aren't as popular anymore as they used to be a decade ago, I think using Discord to build a community isn't such a bad idea tbh - I'm open for suggestions tho. |
Posted by: thedoctor45 on 2025-11-23 13:21:57 Just a heads up that I've started adding a whole bunch of new PowerPC ports to the servers downloads section (approx. 80 games as of now, including an Ion Fury PPC port) and you can expect that amount to increase quite a bit in the coming months. |
