where is the sound coming from on the laptop?

This happens with a few of my Macs as they've aged, my iMac G4 is the worst. It squeals whenever there is any HD activity, it's like an audible HD activity monitor.. I think it's to do with a dodgy power supply, I haven't tried replacing it yet.
Does it happen when you plug in other power hungry USB devices/copying large amounts of data from external drives?

Could also be that an inductor has come unglued and is acting as an impromptu speaker.

This has happened before on a few PC laptops I've owned, it's a quiet squealing. It's usually the ones that have had battery damage of some sort.

The speakers, opened it up to see if the headphone jack is making trouble, but it's fine
