Hi there! I have a Mac Plus that I recently finished recapping. Before the recap, it didn't start up at all; now, it happily chimes and the screen works, which is great progress! But, it also shows a Sad Mac code that I'm having trouble deciphering.
The code in question is 03FF00. I've looked in a few different places and can't seem to find an exact match. I've read that 03 indicates a memory issue of some sort, but I can't find any references to what FF00 might mean. From what I can gather, those bits might point toward a specific RAM chip, but I haven't found anything that matches that sequence exactly.
In case it happens to be relevant, I should note that I've plugged in a Floppy Emu for the Plus to boot from, because I do not know if the floppy drive works and do not have any 800K disks to test with. However, the same code shows regardless of whether the Floppy Emu is plugged in or not.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction! I feel like I'm so close to getting this Mac up and running again, if I can just figure this out. Thank you! 🙂 | Posted by: bibilit on 2024-08-17 13:48:13
Hi,
You don’t say how much ram you have ?
1Mb ? More ?
The Plus is 1Mb if not upgraded, but can be upgraded to 4 Mb unit as amaximum. To be upgraded, a resistor is removed, or simply cut.
If you have more than 1 Meg ( 4x 256 kb) and resistor is not intact, can be an issue here.
If not, maybe one stick is faulty, try swapping sticks around, to see if sad Mac is different. | Posted by: Byrd on 2024-08-17 14:39:24

In a 128 FF00 means that G5 to G12 are defect and F5 to F12 are ok. Could be that one or two of your RAM modules are defect. | | 1 |
