IIci Mystery PDS Card
Posted by: lmartu on 2024-07-18 07:46:20
Hello all,

I am considering picking up (yet another) IIci but I have only some pics to verify its condition. Board looks clean enough (no battery bomb) probably "just" cap juice.
The price is really good, but it's a 2 hr roundtrip drive so I'm a little uncertain.
That being said I wonder if someone knows what the card in the PDS slot might be. For sure its not the OEM apple cache card.
The picture is not very revealing... all I can see is a full row of 13 chips on the top.
Any Toughts?

Take Care

Luigi.

PS the video card looks interesting too....

Doesn't look like an '040 on there, so probably a cache card. Just my two cents.

@Powerbase my thoughts too. Maybe a larger cache than the Apple one? Otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense.

Absolutely a cache card of some type. Looks like one of the ones that uses DIP RAM.

Video board looks to be some flavor of unaccelerated card, maybe related to 8*24?

@zigzagjoe yeah the video board looks pretty bog standard, but probably much better than the onboard Video

It looked so boring and unacclerated looking, it wasn't even worth mentioning. Might be one of the 'big' 128K cache cards, though.

@Powerbase probably nothing special enough for making a trip. looks like there’s “lots” of ram but it could be just 256k sticks. But if someone was intrersted enough to put a more powerful cache card I’m betting those are at least 1 meg sticks!

Depending on the price and the distance, it might be worth it. A IIci is a decent little box.

@Powerbase 40 euros plus cost of the trip … it may just be worth it .. especially if it works

There are 13 chips across on that PDS card, never seen a cache card like that.
