Mac Performa 200 issues
Posted by: Salty_1966 on 2024-07-17 01:16:09 Aloha folks. I bought a Mac Performa 200. It booted up just fine but then stalled using “Mac check” but it was running hot. I manually (turned off the power) shut it down. it started after letting it cool but then it from as I was checking out what software it had. I had to shut it off manually again and now all I get is a white screen. Thoughts?

The Mac Classic line (of which the Performa 200 is a rebranded Classic II) is notorious for bad capacitors on both the logic board and analog board, and non-booting situations can be caused by this. It may still be heat related (is the fan running?), but the caps can and will cause issues, which can complicate diagnosis even if they're not the direct cause of the current issues.
Posted by: Salty_1966 on 2024-07-17 01:39:19 It hasnt been recapped and it looks like I'd have to send it all the way to New York (I live in Hawaii) to be recapped. They say it'll be $150 as long as I remove the the logic board and analog board and send them.

He's done tons of boards and power supplies for me and they've turned out wonderfully. He's especially worth the money if your soldering isn't the greatest like mine is (I can do basic stuff just fine, but those boards require some precision and practice; if you're going to get into recapping them yourself, get a battery victim board and practice on it first). This machine 100% needs re-capped, both logic board and analog board. Any Classic of any kind needs this. Do you have the long Torx T15 screwdriver to get into the case with?

They are shipped in plastic packaging designed to fit on a reel (for use with "pick and place" machines) that happens to have a square recess for holding the capacitor.

I can't tell if the kit includes capacitors for the analog board. I know very little about them but a friend who does this sort of thing asked me track down everything to do a full recap.
Posted by: nyef on 2024-07-18 20:24:53 A quick look at the console5 site shows that that particular kit is for the logic board only, not the analog board, but that they supply analog board kits as well... but that you will need to find the appropriate kit for the specific model of analog board that you have.
