MacSnap SCSI on 512k
Posted by: crazyben on 2024-07-05 12:29:58
I recently acquired 512k that has MacSnap scsi card. The 512k got banged up during shipping and pins in the card is bent. How fragile are these pins? Can I bent them back or can i replace them?

They can be bent back. But they won't take too much bending. Try using a 0.5mm mechanical pencil, take the lead out of it. Take it very slowly -- there's not many of those doohickeys floating around.

I will do that. Thank you. I wonder if you can desolder the broken pins and solder new one.

They are indeed fragile, you can replace them, but will have to remove/replace the ROM sockets first

I have a MacSnap SCSI card that I broke two pins on the ROM headers. I used a portion of a through hole capacitor leg for my repair. The leg was the same diameter of the header pins. You can solder it onto the header. I've done the same with broken CPU pins.

Best to have a small solder tip. It's just as strong and I did get a good connection when I reattached it to the motherboard.
