| Rom-inator Help |
Posted by: tact on 2016-08-26 10:54:56 I'm still Trying to finish this ultra SE30 restoration..
Got a mac Rom-inator for a 32bit clean rom hoping it would fix my other problem, But it Won't boot to my hard drive with 7.5.5 installed (32 mode has been removed) nor will it boot to a disk utility floppy, or 7.1 or 7.5 install discs. It always gets stuck at Welcome to macintosh screen, just sits there, doesn't crash or shut off or error anything, freezes I guess.
It will boot to the built in rom drive has 7.1, And It Does boot to 6.0.8 install floppy... but everything else I tried so far gets stuck at welcome to macintosh.
Anyone have the rominator can PLEASE Help me.. losing my mind here

Posted by: joethezombie on 2016-08-26 11:00:13 I have a rominator (and programmer) that I've been dying to play with, but I haven't taken it out of the package yet! I'll take a break from trying to get video output on a problem logic board and give it a whirl on my good se30 tonight.

Never was able to boot to a floppy with a dougg3 rom installed in my SE/30 either. Same thing- stuck on Welcome to Macintosh screen. Seem to remember bmow having issues with that when he was working on his project but I thought he had it gotten that sorted out. Maybe he has a different image.

Posted by: tact on 2016-08-26 14:32:32 Hmm How about that. That's all very helpful.
I'll try those instructions and try and hack it to work right, and on to the next problem when I mess that up too, lol.
What have I gotten myself into..=)

Posted by: joethezombie on 2016-08-26 16:07:36 Yes, very helpful Alaska! Thanks a ton. Good luck tact! Now I'm kinda glad I waited to play with mine to avoid the trial and error phase you went through! 😛

Posted by: tact on 2016-08-27 13:09:27 Alrighty that seemed to work!! It booted to my installation of 7.5.5 in 32bit!
Thanks a lot for your help =)
Now I will find out if this fixes my other problems...

Posted by: tact on 2016-08-30 23:06:44 btw Here's my solution to the problem the rominator is a split hair thinner than my stock rom and wouldn't sit up all the way making poor contact. just a quick shim will do =)
Solved

Posted by: just.in.time on 2016-09-27 22:22:41 That ROM-inator looks so dang cool! 😎 After I get my Mac Plus all set up with its ROM-inator, I think I will have to order this one 🙂

Posted by: CC_333 on 2016-10-23 10:21:07 You know, I've never patched anything, and I can install and use every System that is natively supported by the SE/30 without issues with the custom ROM installed. Why is this??

Posted by: BadGoldEagle on 2016-10-23 11:13:50 CC: The "Standard" SE/30 can't use the HD20, so the Floppy EMU in HD20 mode won't work, and you can't install 8.1 on the SE/30 without a 32 bit ROM.
Mode32 has a few glitches. Sometimes it won't let you use more than 8mb of RAM even though you have more than 8mb installed. Also, with a custom ROM file, you can disable the RAM-check at startup, which is quite useful once you have maxxed out the RAM to 128mb!
tact: Did this solve the glitchy mouse pointer with the color pivot?

Posted by: tact on 2016-10-26 10:15:00 no...? That's why I'm still waiting on this ROM update thing for the radius pivot... if that doesn't work I'll have to trash this video card and hope I find a new one someday.....

Posted by: EtherRad on 2016-11-14 19:34:00 For the Rominator-I, I have a Mac Plus; I was wondering if there is a way to move the rominator elsewhere in the case. Is there such a thing as a 28 pin DIP cable to DIP socket?
