Color Classic Analog Board Repair (Damaged PCB More Than Lifted Pad)
Posted by: mcbeav on 2024-07-03 07:30:15
I'm looking for some advice on if this is possible to fix, and how to go about doing so. The pad is lifted, but its a little more than just the pad. It looks like the bottom layer was torn slightly with the pad.

My suggestion is to remove the solder mask (GREEN STUFF) from both sides of the damage, apply some flux and a lot of solder to bridge the gap. Then some UV conformal coating to seal everything up.

Any idea why it cracked to begin with? Just so that some preventative measures can be taken so it doesn't happen again.

My own thought would be to conductive-epoxy the pad back down (or, if it's completely torn off and you lose it, conductive-epoxy down some copper tape), solder a bit to bridge to the existing copper, and then maybe the UV coating. That said, conductive epoxy is Not Cheap, and this doesn't look like the sort of connection that really needs the full treatment (I've only used it for lifted surface-mount pads, such as for capacitors).
