64K ROM support for Lisa Widget drive?

I've just come across in an old thread a remark by @Mac128 that "I have measured the cabinet and confirmed that the HD20 will accept a Widget drive. The HD20 is identical to the 20SC cases which were intended to take 3.5 & 5.25 inch full height drives. Likely why the HD20 was an inch taller than much of its competition, like the Mac Bottom, and the fan sticks out the back. Since the 64K ROM contains a Widget driver, this is likely a case of Apple originally intended that configuration, like the Twiggy drive was for the Macintosh. Not that there is a Widget drive in this case, but perhaps a 5.25 full height SCSI drive."

Does anyone have any more info on this? The Widget connects to the Lisa via a parallel interface - which the original Mac never had. Was this just a 'software' accommodation for hardware that never made it to even a prototype stage? 🤔

Never heard of that, but it doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility. I've seen reference here and there to different internal HD projects at Apple that all eventually fizzeled out after Widget/Profile.

What's the widget driver called? A brief perusal of the 64k ROM seems only to show me Sony as a storage driver.
