| LC VRAM "For Mac LC Only" -- any risk using in a Performa 467? |
Posted by: federalfriar on 2024-05-26 21:40:55 Hey folks, I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge around this message printed on the back of the VRAM chip and whether it's cosmetic or organizational or not. I'd prefer not to blatantly ignore a message like this if it means "LC-only" rather than "LC-slot-only" which the Performa 467 certainly seems to be based on. Having purchased a new 512k stick for the LC, I was thinking I'd use the leftover 256k stick in the 467 to max it out. No problem if I need to wait and buy a different stick. |
Posted by: Cory5412 on 2024-05-26 22:36:14 The Performa 467 is a rebadge of the LC III, sold into the home (vs. education) market - so if the VRAM you have matches the specs for the expansion on the LC III then you should be good to go! |

Posted by: Big Ben on 2024-05-26 23:05:50 Hi,
LC only VRAM is probably 100ns VRAM, which is also fine in a LCII but an LCIII will require 80ns VRAM.
It could work, you only may encounter video problems. |
Posted by: chiptripper on 2024-05-29 11:51:31 I have used “LC only” VRAM on later models (accidentally) and it booted. Not ideal performance-wise to use 100ns on an LC III as @Big Ben mentioned.
The LC is notoriously picky about its VRAM, even some 100ns sticks won’t work. |
