Calling 540c owners - photos of interconnect to display cable
Posted by: SparrowRat on 2024-05-19 23:22:51Hey all,
Last year I bought a 540 on ebay, with a display damaged from vinegar syndrome. I bought a replacement 540c display, (thinking I may as well upgrade to color, as well as 540s being a bit rarer than the other 5xx models). I then realized that the interconnect to display cable must match the display. I bought a "SHARP COLOR FSTN" cable. I then did some research and once it arrived read this thread and realized that I actually needed a "SHARP COLOR TFT" cable. Looking at the monochrome and the color FSTN cables, there are only a few differences. My thinking goes that if I had photos of a "TFT" cable I might be able to convert between the two. If anyone is opening their 540c display anyway, could you please take photos of the cable?
I recently acquired a PowerBook 540c. It boots up but the screen is having weird issue. It flickers between dark and bright and it has line all over making text unreadable. I did install 7.6 on it rule out the font issue for text. But nothing changed. Any idea what might be causing this? Do I...
Posted by: SparrowRat on 2024-05-20 07:16:17I did see that thread and the page on MacDat. The thread has a far away and low-resolution photo of one side of the cable (and every connection on that side looks the same between the cables) and the MacDat page has no photos and is for the panels themselves anyway.

This is all I have. Unfortunately it is the Toshiba cable, which is different to the Sharp one.
Posted by: jmacz on 2024-05-20 22:15:40I have the sharp screen. But not sure when I will get around to opening the lid again. Will definitely take some pictures next time I am in there.

The individual wiring is hard to see from a picture (actually can't see most of it myself with this in person) so not sure how useful this will be for you but hope this helps.
