3DFx Voodoo 5 5500 PCI MAC: support?
Posted by: DiTBho on 2024-04-11 05:24:04
hi,
I wonder how good/bad is the MacOS{10.1 .. 10.4} support for 3DFx Voodoo 5 5500 PCI MAC.
Anyone?

Non-existent I believe.

That's purely a classic Mac OS card. Get the one on eBay that guy was selling?

Are there RAVE drivers for Mac OS X? Would these make a difference?

There ain't no drivers for that card for OS X. 3dfx went out of business and got bought out by Nvidia around when OS X was released.

If you're lucky you might get it running as a dumb frambuffer in OS X, but that would be a waste and an insult to such a card.

Apple dropped RAVE completely with OSX. The only way to get anything vaguely RAVE-related on OSX is that there was an opensource QuickDraw3D compatibility layer for OpenGL.

Yeah, no acceleration with a 5500 under OS X. Dumb framebuffer only, I played with it a few years back. You're better off with a Rage if you want to run OS X.
