There's no case or PSU. I plan (in my naïvety) to add a DIY ZuluSCSI PICO (or BlueSCSI, whichever is the orthodox one), but no FDD, CD (awww, but I do have a SCSI CD300) nor PDS etc; then wrap it in a minimal case (probably wood, because of the exciting possibilities of it catching fire) so it'll be much slimmer than a real 6100, hence calling it a 6050. I'll make sure it can be kept cool enough though. The standard 6100 PSU is 210W, because it can power a monitor (I think), but I don't need that, does anyone know what power requirements are really needed for this kind of configuration (6100 Motherboard + RAM + ZuluSCSI PICO)? | Posted by: Phipli on 2024-04-05 14:16:26
ZuluSCSI PICO (or BlueSCSI, whichever is the orthodox one), Both and neither. The dark side of open source. Two people trying to out do each other in combat where there can be no winner. There is no technological advantages to be made over the other when the licence you both built your technology on means you must share your improvements, and your opponent would be committing commercial suicide if they didn't roll in the improvements you implement.
Neither should be proud of their behaviour. | Posted by: Phipli on 2024-04-05 14:22:57
because it can power a monitor (I think) No, the monitors were powered independently. | Posted by: Snial on 2024-04-05 14:45:58

Neither should be proud of their behaviour. Oh right - well, I just remember some people getting a bit miffed because they mentioned BlueSCSI when they thought Zulu was the proper one and I didn't want to choose the more dodgy one, but I did want to choose a PICO-based DIY one.
No, the monitors were powered independently. OK. Does that mean I still need a 210W PSU? I suspect the PPC601 is fairly hungry, but most of the rest of electronics are fairly standard. And I remember your thread on ATX power supplies, but maybe even a min-ITX one will do? https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/iici-etc-atx-to-10pin-adapter.43391/ | Posted by: Phipli on 2024-04-05 14:55:08

You could estimate it by subtracting the older estimates for a NuBus card, floppy drive, 3/4 of a hard disk and a CD ROM Drive from the rating? | Posted by: Snial on 2024-04-05 15:03:34

Sounds dreadful, I'd have to do some work 😉 ! ... in other words, I guess I can do that 🙂 ! Though, I seem to be backtracking on my 6100 minimalism, because I've remembered I also have a spare Mac FDD (not sure if it's FDHD though). | | 1 |
