SE / SE/30 battery replacement
Posted by: mousehouse on 2024-02-18 05:42:01
Hi all,

I've removed the battery from my newly acquired SE/30 which (thankfully!) has not leaked. Now I'm looking to replace the battery with a good one that will last another 10-20 years without leaking.

Searching for the part number P/N 742-0011 on eBay gives a few results in the $50 range.

It appears to be an ER14250 battery. However, the versions I find for a few $ are typically non-rechargeable.

Any recommendations for a working replacement battery?

Thx

I would suggest using a MeowToast or MacBatt. They’re a small PCB that adapts a common CR2032 coin cell to replace a 1/2 AA lithium PRAM battery. The PRAM batteries are meant to be non-rechargeable in desktops, I’ve only seen NiCd or lithium rechargeable PRAM batteries in PowerBooks.

Thanks! Airshop has a drop-in version I see that I'll get for the SE/30.

On the SE it looks like the battery is soldered on. Does the replacement battery holder for the Plus fit in that spot?

No, the Plus and earlier use a much larger 4.5V alkaline battery. Something like this would be required to replace that soldered battery: https://store.retrofixes.com/products/macintosh-se-pram-holder

Thanks! Exactly what I'm looking for.

Shipping however seems to be ~ $35, ouch...
