okay all you G4 cube experts out there: I need your help yet AGAIN!
I have a weird problem with my 2nd cube. Whenever I connect power, it immediately turns on (without touching the power button). After a few seconds, the power button with flash very rapidly for about a second, the cubes turns off and on again, repeating this forever. It won't show any picture at all.
I have already tried the following all of which does not make difference to the behavior:
- used the original VRM instead of the Artmix
- removed some of the RAM, even all of the RAM, used different DIMMs
- tried the stock 400 MHz G4 board, tried a 1.2 GHz Sonnect Encore
- unplugged the hard drive
- unplugged the NMI board
- unplugged the modem and the Airport card + antennas
- used a different PSU than the original
- reset the PRAM, removed/replaced the battery
- used a different power button
- used a patched Nvidia 6200 graphics card, the original ATI graphics card and tried even with no graphics card at all
As I said, nothing changes the behavior of the system: You plug power in, it immediately turns on, flashes rapidly (too fast to count the flashes unfortunately), turns off and on again....
Any ideas? Thank you!
Kind regards
Christian | Posted by: François on 2024-02-18 08:36:13 Did you try to run it naked, outside of the acrylic shell? IIRC there’s a gasket inside the acrylic shell, around the place for the power button, that could cause erratic behavior. It’s safe to remove it, it was even documented by Apple. | Posted by: Cktwo on 2024-02-18 10:36:25 It‘s back alive for unknown reasons. I disassembled and reassembled it which, to my surprise, did the trick. At least for today, we‘ll see what the Cube is up to tomorrow…. | | 1 |
